Pensions and Venture Capital Investment Strategies

This morning, our Managing Partner Simone Cremonini and Hassan Metwalley PhD, Chief Information Security Officer & Co-founder of Ermes Browser Security, took part in the conference “Pensions and Investment Strategies in Venture Capital” promoted by Hon. Walter Rizzetto, President of the Public and Private Labor Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The event, of fundamental importance for the sector, brought together for the first time legislators such as Federico D’Incà, Maria Teresa Bellucci, and Paolo Tracassini; institutional investors such as Giovanni Maggi and Alberto Oliveti; representatives of the research community such as Stefano Quintarelli; and startups, to discuss investment strategies for Pension Funds, Social Security Funds, and other institutional players. As our Managing Partner highlighted during his speech: “#VentureCapital, when it is part of a portfolio strategy where a fund invests in multiple startups and within an institutional investor’s strategy that invests in multiple funds, should not be considered ‘patient capital.’ In these cases, it is an investment asset class capable of generating returns year after year, ensuring the flows required to provide the benefits that institutions must guarantee. Venture capital is not about investing in companies with limited ambitions, but in high-value enterprises – Ermes Browser Security is a perfect example – that, much like the companies in the post-World War II era, can contribute to the country’s economic recovery. To achieve this, however, belief is needed, along with public investments and a favorable legislative framework. The entrepreneurs are here; what is needed are funds and institutional investors capable of actively supporting their growth.”
